One of the things that has kept me busy lately (and which has made me fall so far behind in my reading and writing) is that I am in a production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." I don't want to say that any play is foolproof, but this certainly comes close (thanks, Mr. Shakespeare). A theater company has to be really incompetent to put on a dull version of this one. Luckily, the people I'm working with are talented with lots of good ideas, so I think we're going to come out of this with a far better than average spin through the forest of fairies and mixed up lovers. It's an all-female cast (not always something I buy when doing Shakespeare, but hey, if I'm one of the females, I'm not going to complain), and astonishingly, they're all incredibly nice and professional--not a diva, nutcase, or Miss Bossy in the group. I don't know how it worked out so well, but I'm glad to be a part of it. I'm one of the Mechanicals, which is easily one of the most fun gigs in the theater canon; the worse you act, the funnier you are, so we're being as bad as we can be.
There is a tiny part for a dog in the show, that most productions usually cover with a stuffed animal. I'm hoping to get them to let Sunflower play the dog, though. I am trying not to come off as too much of a Stage Dog Mom, but it's hard to hold back when she would be just so darn cute.
